The GRE is a standardized test that is required for admission to graduate programs in many universities around the world. The exam consists of three sections: Analytical Writing, Verbal Reasoning, and Quantitative Reasoning. The Analytical Writing section measures your critical thinking and analytical writing skills, while the Verbal Reasoning and Quantitative Reasoning sections assess your ability to analyze and evaluate written material, and to solve problems using basic mathematical concepts, respectively.

Graduate Record Examination (GRE) is a standardized test taken by prospective graduate and business school applicants from all around the world who are interested in pursuing Masters, MBA, Business Masters or Doctoral degrees in the US, Canada and many other countries. A good GRE score is one of the most significant steps towards the study abroad journey. Educational Testing Services (ETS) is the owner and administrator of the GRE exam. The GRE General Test is a computer-based test with prometric centers at over 1,000 test locations in over 160 countries. The exam dates and slots are available throughout the year in most parts of the world. Every year, over 500,000 people from 160 countries take the GRE General Test, which is administered at over 1,000 ETS test centers. Candidates’ GRE scores are accepted at thousands of graduate institutions worldwide for Masters and doctorate degrees. The GRE exam is a computer-based section adaptive test with 6 sections that measure GRE Verbal reasoning, GRE Quantitative reasoning and GRE Analytical writing skills. The GRE exam has a unique testing and scoring style different from all the Indian tests; it is adaptive by section. The first section of Quant/Verbal has a mix of easy, medium and hard questions. If the student performs well in the first section, then the second section will be harder thereby increasing the score scaling. However, if the student performs poorly in the first section, the second section will be easier thereby decreasing the score scaling. In the former scenario, the student gets a higher score and, in the latter, the student gets a comparatively lower score.

FAQs

Anyone can take the GRE irrespective of education background. But you need to be a graduate before
starting your Master’s or PhD program.

It is one of the most important criteria that the admissions committee looks at. A good GRE score will
significantly boost your chances of getting a top admit.

GRE can be taken an unlimited number of times with a gap of minimum 21 days between two attempts. In
a calendar year, you cannot take the GRE more than 5 times.

GRE scores are valid for 5 years.

You will be able to see your Quant and Verbal score immediately after the completion of the exam.
However, the official score report along with the AWA score will be available after 8-10 days.

Almost all universities will consider the best score. You can choose which score to be sent to the
universities.

Although some universities have made GRE optional, it is highly recommended to apply with your GRE
score as it will enhance your chances of getting a scholarship.

GRE is held on working days (Monday to Friday). The test schedule is available on www.ets.org

You can register online or by phone or email. The detailed information about the registration process is
available on www.ets.org

The GRE test registration fee is USD 220. After the test, you are asked to submit the names of 4 colleges
where you would like to send your scores. This facility is free.

Although many universities had waived off the GRE due to logistical challenges during the pandemic,
GRE scores are still considered vital for the MS admission process. A student with a GRE score will always
be preferred.

If the test date is cancelled 4 days before the actual test, you will get 50% refund of the registration fee.
Beyond that, no more refund will be possible.
